It’s been a busy year and we finished December by traveling to the ASH meeting in New Orleans! Sandra was a moderator in the Bone Marrow Microenvironment – Contribution of Immune Signaling to the Microenvironment session!

We are so excited to share our latest work together with the Tahmasebi and Sonenber labs published in PNAS. Our study reveals the role of the amino acid sensor GCN2 in the clearance of red blood cells during stress by liver macrophages. “The amino acid sensor GCN2 controls red blood cell clearance and iron metabolism through regulation of liver macrophages”.

The exciting news continue in the Pinho lab. Our new study “VCAM1 confers innate immune tolerance on haematopoietic and leukaemic stem cells” was just published in Nature Cell Biology. Congratulations to our team and all the authors!


January 2022

Lots of exciting things happening in the lab in the beginning of 2022!

We co-author “The microbiota regulates hematopoietic stem cell fate decisions by controlling iron availability in bone marrow” published in Cell Stem Cell. Congrats to Dachuan Zhang and the Frenette Lab!

Anna is awarded a Gold Medal for her poster presentation as part of the 2021 University of Illinois College of Medicine Research Forum. Way to go Anna!

Anna is also selected as a pre-doctoral trainee for the Chicago KUH FORWARD Training Program. A very exciting start to 2022!
