We are so excited to share our latest work together with the Tahmasebi and Sonenber labs published in PNAS. Our study reveals the role of the amino acid sensor GCN2 in the clearance of red blood cells during stress by liver macrophages. “The amino acid sensor GCN2 controls red blood cell clearance and iron metabolism through regulation of liver macrophages”.

We co-author “The microbiota regulates hematopoietic stem cell fate decisions by controlling iron availability in bone marrow” published in Cell Stem Cell. Congrats to Dachuan Zhang and the Frenette Lab!
Anna is awarded a Gold Medal for her poster presentation as part of the 2021 University of Illinois College of Medicine Research Forum. Way to go Anna!
Anna is also selected as a pre-doctoral trainee for the Chicago KUH FORWARD Training Program. A very exciting start to 2022!

Charles Ayemoba officially joins the lab as a full time graduate student. Charles also obtains a NIH T32 grant to help fund his graduate studies.

Two new members join the lab. Liam Armstrong joins as the lab technician and Charles Ayemoba joins as a rotating graduate student. We are looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together!
